The graduate certificate in Orientation & Mobility (O&M) prepares professionals to teach blind and visually impaired individuals how to travel safely and confidently using a cane. Offered through the Professional Development and Research Institute on Blindness (PDRIB), this one-of-a-kind program is the only O&M training in the U.S. that teaches the structured-discovery cane travel method, a philosophy rooted in high expectations, real-world experiences, and non-visual skill development. All O&M students complete a quarter-long blindness immersion experience at the ÌÇÐÄ´«Ã½ Center for the Blind (LCB), participating in courses like braille, assistive technology, and cane travel under sleep shades. No prior teaching or blindness experience is required. This high-demand field offers fulfilling careers in schools, rehabilitation centers, VA programs, and beyond — changing lives by giving the gift of independence.
